The West Hartford Bantam A team brought home the Tier 4 state championship on Feb. 26 in a 3-2 thriller over a tough Greater New Haven opponent. Kyle O’Shaughnessy started the scoring with a power-play goal before GNH tied it up 1-1 to end the first period. In the second period, C.J. Bankoff made a beautiful pass to O’Shaughnessy on a 2-on-1 before Kyle sniped a shot to the top corner for a 2-1 lead. After killing off a few penalties, the Wolves took a 3-1 lead early in the third when Bankoff made a great bank pass off the boards while exiting the D zone to a streaking Brock Dauber-Katz, who shoveled a wrist shot top shelf. GNH scored with a minute left after pulling its goalie, but the Wolves held on for the title! Backstopped by some brilliant goaltending and timely saves by Seth Kernozicky, the Wolves fought hard throughout the state tournament, finishing undefeated with a 6-0 record. A true team effort where the kids learned valuable life lessons in competition, leadership, teamwork and playing for each other. Congrats again to the Bantam A Wolves as we look to raise a banner at Vets in the coming weeks!
